Frequently asked questions
Yes, most sectional garage doors can be automated using a Merlin automatic opener, however there are some exceptions. If your door is significantly damaged or warped, it may need to be repaired or replaced to ensure smooth and reliable operation with the new opener.
We can replace the majority of common remotes on the market. Some with like or like or older openers with an aftermarket or universal remote.
Your door could be jamming or catching on something.
Is it always at the same place?
Look for
-
Excessive door movement
- Something blocking the door or not allowing it to close fully
- If a tilt a door, wear marks on the face of the opening signifying worn power arm bushes.
- If a roller door the tracks may be dry and in need of a clean and an application of a dry glide product.
- If a sectional check that the cables on the side of the door from the bottom panel to the pulleys at the top have not come off. This would show as the door coming down on an angle.
It may just be that your door needs a good service and the opener sensitivity recalibrating. Give us a call. Were here to help.
This can be several things
The first check is to disconnect the door from an automatic opener (if it has one) and to try and open the door manually. If this is difficult or impossible look for the following:
If a sectional
-
Check the spring/s above the door they may be broken.
- Check the wires on the side from the bottom panel to the pulley. One or both of them may have come off. Usually noticeable by the door coming up on an angle.
If a tilt a door
- Check the springs on the side of the door. One may be broken.
- Look over the door for anything broken off or out of the ordinary.
- The door locks may be catching.
If a roller door
- It may have lost its tension. This will show by the door being "ballooned" at the top.
- The locking rods may have extended and are catching.
If the door is working fine manually then test the automatic opener without it being connected to the door. If it will not operate then your opener may have failed.
To log a warranty claim, please contact the Merlin dealer who installed your garage door or gate opener for assessment. Your dealer will log the claim on your behalf. If you don’t recall who your Merlin dealer is, you can contact our customer service team, and they will connect you with your local dealer.
Merlin products are protected by our SECURITY+ 2.0® & Rolling Code Technology. This is the highest level of security encryption available in the market. Merlin Garage Door Openers with SECURITY+ 2.0® send a unique, encrypted code with every remote click.
Merlin remotes use Rolling code technology, which means every time the remote is clicked a unique code is sent to your garage door opener, so the same code is never used twice. This offers the highest level of encryption which prevents "replay attacks", where someone could capture and re-use a code to open the garage door. A simple clone would only copy the current code, which would be instantly outdated.
